(Richmond, Texas)- The Richmond City Commission has taken decisive action in support of residents and long-term city planning by approving a change to 2026 property tax exemptions for the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget. Based on staff recommendations, the exemptions will see a change: the Over-65 Exemption will remain at $6,000 and the Homestead Exemption will increase to 4.0% with a $5,000 minimum.

The homestead exemption stands out as a strong incentive for homeowners, delivering additional tax relief and demonstrating the City’s commitment to supporting our residents. Mayor Becky Haas said, “We are proud to provide meaningful tax relief to our residents. These exemptions reflect our commitment to maintaining Richmond as an affordable, livable community.”

The City of Richmond Commission meetings are held the third Monday of the month with Special Commission Meetings scheduled as needed to advance the adoption of components of the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget.
