(Richmond, Texas) – Richmond Mayor Rebecca Kennelly Haas was officially sworn in as the re-elected mayor of Richmond during the City Commission’s regular meeting on May 18, 2026, beginning her third three-year term as the city’s 11th mayor. Known throughout the community as Mayor Becky Haas, she has served Richmond for the past six years, helping lead the city through a period of significant residential, commercial and infrastructure growth while maintaining a focus on fiscal responsibility, historic preservation and community investment. During her time in office, the city has seen continued development within neighborhoods such as Mandola Farms and Wall Street, along with growth throughout Richmond’s extra-territorial jurisdiction.
Under Mayor Haas’ leadership, the city has also advanced major capital improvement and infrastructure initiatives, including the development of Richmond’s new City Hall, a project designed to enhance city services and better serve residents for generations to come. Her administration has emphasized long-term planning, mobility improvements, drainage projects and continued investment in public facilities while maintaining a conservative financial approach that has kept the city’s tax rate trending downward during her terms in office.
Richmond has also received several statewide recognitions during Mayor Haas’ tenure, highlighting the city’s commitment to community pride, fiscal management and quality of life. Among those honors are recognition as Scenic Texas’ Scenic City of the Year and continued acknowledgment for excellence in budgeting and municipal operations.
A long-time Richmond resident, she and her husband, Robert Haas, have been married for 46 years and raised two daughters and are proud grandparents. Mayor Haas is also a proud direct descendant of one of Stephen F. Austin’s original Texas settlers, known as the “Old 300,” and serves on several boards.
Deeply passionate about Texas and local history, Mayor Haas has dedicated years of service to preserving and promoting Richmond’s heritage. As she begins her new term, Mayor Haas remains committed to thoughtful growth, strong infrastructure, economic opportunity and preserving the character and history that continue to define Richmond.
