LIFE INSURANCE - Assurant Life Insurance
The City provides a $50,000 Life Insurance and accidental death & dismemberment coverage for full time employees.
LONG TERM DISABILITY- Assurant Long Term Disability Insurance
The City provides this benefit to all full time employees. Benefit becomes available after 90 days elimination period or sick leave is exhausted. The benefit allows employees to receive 60% of their monthly salary.
Available through Colonial, employees can purchase Short Term Disability, Accident Care, Medical Bridge, Cancer Security, Critical Illness and Life Insurance. The premium are payroll deducted and some plans can be pre-taxed.
SECTION 125 / FLEXIBLE BENEFITS PLANS
Allows contribution of pre-tax salary for medical, dental, vision, and prescription co-payments. Dependent childcare is also available.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION (457 Plan)
Available through VALIC. Employees may enroll at any time during their employment. Payments are made through payroll deduction.
LEGAL SHIELD PLAN
Employees can voluntary elect to participate in a Legal Shield / Identity Theft Plan. Premiums are paid through payroll deductions.
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
This program is available at no cost to the employee. This program provides assistance for employees and their immediate family members in the event of an emotional, family, legal, medical, substance abuse and/or financial problem.
All employees are covered under the Texas Workers’ Compensation Insurance Program administered through the Texas Municipal League.
Available through Brazos Valley Credit Union.
TEXAS MUNICIPAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM (TMRS)
Participation in the system is mandatory for all full-time employees. Each employee contributes at a rate of 7% of his/her gross wages. The City contributes to each employee’s account at a 2:1 ratio. The city adopted the 5 year vesting and 20 year retirement any age.
1-6 Years of service 11 days are granted. For each year after, 1 additional day is granted.

After one year of employment, employees will receive $5.00 per month, per year of service.
