What Drivers Can Do When A Train Blocks the Crossings in Cases of Emergency

Post Date:01/30/2018 6:30 AM
In an effort to better inform our Richmond residents regarding emergency response when trains block the crossings for extended periods of time, please know there are policies and procedures in place. If you should have an emergency please contact 911 as several options may be available:
• The Second Street access road, in downtown Richmond, will
    be made available.
• Life Flight may be deployed to your location.
• Police and fire may be dispatched to your location.
• Depending on the need trains can be uncoupled in minutes to
   provide access.

We continue to look for immediate and long term solutions to this ongoing problem. Among these are:
• Continue meeting with Union Pacific and other users of the track to minimize the number of crossings blocked.
• Continue to collaborate on the completion of Riverwood Dr./Richwood/Old Richmond Rd. project, to bring that to completion in the next 6 months.
• Persist to seek other long term alternatives.

As always, we welcome productive community input regarding other possible solutions.
