October is a big ‘Awareness’ month since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and National Fire Prevention Month!  The Richmond Fire Department brings awareness and educates about both of these priority situations all month long.

Fire Chief Mike Youngblood said “During the month our firefighters wear shirts designed and especially made to bring attention to the many family, friends, and loved ones who are impacted by the effects of cancer". The shirt shown here was actually designed by one of the firemen.

Additionally, the Fire Prevention Team led by Fire Marshal Albert Cantu and Chief Deputy Fire Marshal Troy Coffman wanted to make a creative statement this year by illuminating the Fire Department Headquarters Tower with cool pink lighting in honor of all cancer survivors and those battling.

Richmond Fire Department asks everyone to take a few minutes to drive by the station located at 200 Houston Street in Richmond, after dark, and reflect on the challenges fire personnel face every day and how the resilience of our citizens encourages us all. Also, think of ways you can support both Cancer Awareness and the Prevention of Fire throughout the entire year.
