City Amends the Surface Water Fee Beginning with November Utilities billing
now that Surface Water Treatment Plant Completing March 2018.
The City of Richmond is coming to a conclusion on the construction of the Surface Water Treatment Plant in the 2017- 18 fiscal year with anticipated completion in March 2018. This is exciting for the City as planning began almost ten years ago to determine how Richmond would meet the deadlines, for reduction of ground water usage, mandated by Fort Bend Subsidence District in 2008.
With the surface water treatment plant becoming operational , the expenditures for operations will be increasing, which means the surface water fee must increase to cover expenditures. The Water Master Plan included an increase in surface water fee since the beginning of the plan. The surface water fee will therefore increase 0.10 cents per 1000 gallons of water used, from $ 2.10 to $ 2.20, effective with the November 2017 utilities billing. Citizens have been notified of this change via their water bills, newspaper and email notification.
