Vela Makes Richmond Proud – Public Official of the Year

DSC_9394The University of Houston Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program honored four outstanding public elected and appointed officials on Friday, March 3rd at the University of Houston Hilton Hotel.  The honorees were chosen based on their performance in a challenging work situation, commitment to ethics, public service values, and ability to address problems beyond jurisdictional boundaries as well as support relationships across jurisdictional boundaries.  The candidates were also chosen because they place the welfare of the citizens above personal, professional and political motives.  Ms. Terri Vela, City Manager of Richmond was notified back on December 1st of the award and was presented the award along with 3 other leaders awarded the honor of Public Official of the Year. 

City Manager Vela was chosen for her guidance during the historic floods of 2015 and 2016, the adoption of Richmond’s first home rule charter, the passage of a new Comprehensive Master Plan and the city’s first zoning ordinance.  The implementation of the strategic annexation strategy and the development of an award winning Parks and Trails Master Plan.

DSC_9388Vela was not only honored by the University of Houston but by members of the City of Richmond staff by their attendance as well as Fort Bend County Commissioner Vincent Morales, Richmond Mayor Evalyn Moore, Richmond Commissioner Barry Beard, Cobb, Fendley & Associates, Inc., Mayor Joe Zimmerman of Sugar Land, Mayor Allen Owen of Missouri City, Mayor Charles Jessup of the City of Meadows Place and Councilman Himesh Gandhi of Sugar Land and other dignataries from various cities in Fort Bend County.
