POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The City is looking for employees who are committed to public service and possess a willingness to be challenged. The Fire Department is currently recruiting for “FIREFIGHTER".

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under Direct Supervision of a Lieutenant, this position will perform technical work providing fire suppression, rescue operations, appropriate patient care and public education programs. Firefighter are assigned to shiftwork; currently a 48-hour shift on with 96 hours scheduled off between tours. Duties are performed under emergency conditions and frequently involve considerable personal hazard while responding to fire alarms and emergency medical calls.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 18 years of age
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Current Firefighter certification from Texas Commission on Fire Protection
  • Current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic from Texas Dept. of State Health Services.
  • EMT-Intermediate preferred Certification from Texas Dept. of State Health Services.
  • Must complete and pass each step of the selection process.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Application:

Applicants must provide proof of Current Firefighter Certification and Current Emergency Medical Technician Basic Certification along with their application. Resumes submitted without a City of Richmond application or applications submitted after the deadline date will not be considered. Offers of employment are contingent upon the results of a pre-employment controlled substance screening, physical examination, background check which may include criminal history report, driver’s license verification, State finger print screening and/or credit history check.

 

Recruitment/Selection Process:
 
Step 1: Complete an Application 

Applications must be received by 5:00 PM on Friday, May 31, 2019. Qualified candidates will be notified by e-mail that they are eligible to test. Application may be obtained at Richmond City Hall, 402 Morton St., Richmond, TX or by downloading from city website www.richmondtx.gov. Completed application and resume may be submitted to the Human Resources Department at City Hall.

 

Step 2: Written Exam– Wednesday, June 12, 2019 Time and location TBA)

Report on the date, time and location for the written Exam. (No late entry to testing location)  Passing score is 70% or higher.

 

Step 3: Agility Thursday, June 13, 2019 Time and location TBA)

 

Applicant must successful complete the Agility. (Note no minimum time requirement)

Step 4: Panel Interview Wednesday, June 19, 2019 Time and location TBA)

 

Step 5: Chief Interviews/ background packet intake to take place the week of June 24th Time and location TBA)

Final Steps: Conditional Job Offer, Background Investigation and pre-employment physical and controlled substance screening

Candidates who pass all of the above are placed in an eligibility (applicant) pool. This is not a guarantee of employment; however, the City of Richmond does make job offers from the applicant pool. Subsequently, if a conditional job offer is made to a candidate by the Fire Chief, the candidate must complete and pass a pre-employment controlled substance screening, physical examination, background check which may include criminal history report, driver’s license verification, State finger print screening and/or credit history check before a final job offer is made by the Human Resources Department.
