Street Department Crew Chief

The mission of the Street Department is to maintain and improve City Streets, Bridges, Storm Sewers and Right-of-Ways in an effective and cost effective manner. To repair any known deficiencies in a timely manner, and to provide support and assistance during and after natural and man made disasters.

 Job Summary: Serves as a working crew leader responsible for planning, scheduling, supervising, and directing the work activities of assigned department. A Crew Chief also performs a wide range of work including equipment operation, maintenance, construction, and other related work. The Crew Chief is expected to exercise independence in the day to day operation. The Crew Chief is also responsible for making work assignments, maintaining records and inventories, coordinating material needs and directing personnel.

 Distinguishing Features of the class: An employee of this class acts as a working Crew Leader with responsibility for directing the work of the department. A Crew Leader also performs a wide range of skilled level work including equipment operation, maintenance, construction and other related work. The Crew Leader is expected to exercise relative independence in the day-to-day operation. The Crew Leader has the responsibility for completing work assignments, maintaining records and inventories, coordinating material needs and directing personal.

 Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. Required to have a Valid Texas Class “A” CDL with a hazardous material endorsement or within one year of employment. Required to obtain an herbicide license through Texas Department of Agriculture within one year of employment. Required to be on the “on call” rotation list. Minimum of four current years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance, repair, installation, and construction of streets, traffic control devices, drainage and related facilities. Experience in a lead or supervisory capacity. Experience in the ability to plan, schedule, organize, and direct the work and to delegate effectively to others. Must have knowledge of supervisory and personnel management techniques and the ability to establish and adjust work procedures.

Hours: 7:00 am to 4:00 pm (some overtime)
